Clarke Oduor eager to help Harambee Stars shine bright again

Barnsley midfielder Clarke Oduor is excited to have finally linked up with the Kenyan national team Harambee Stars ahead of their friendly match against Zambia on Friday.

The 21-year-old was handed his first-ever call-up by coach Francis Kimanzi as they prepare for the match set for Nyayo Stadium from 4 pm EAT.

Speaking to Futaa, Oduor outlined his target with the national team ahead of the friendly and in future assignments starting with the team's AFCON Qualifier doubleheader against Comoros next month.

“It’s a good opportunity to represent the national team and I’m excited," he said.

Adding: "My personal aim is to get into the team play my part although collectively we will try to win games as a team and hope that we progress (to AFCON),”

The youngster who plays as a left-back at Barnsley but can also play as a left-winger could be handed his debut against Zambia as Eric "Marcelo' Ouma, Stars' first-choice left-back, was not called-up as he is only coming back from an injury; Kimanzi has another option in Mathare United's David Owino.

With Ayub Timbe unavailable after his club failed to release him, an opportunity could still be available for the classy defender to fill in as a left-winger.

It, however, will be interesting to see if Clarke is handed a start considering he only jetted into the country on Wednesday night, and will only have Thursday to train with the rest of the squad.
