FC Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has admitted that he wanted Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum at the club.
After the arrival of Thiago Alcantara, there were reports that the Dutch midfielder would consider his future at Anfield following the links but a deal didn’t materialize with Wijnaldum saying all was a rumour.
Speaking to NOS via Marca, Koeman said: “It is true he was on my list.”
It is believed that The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp convinced Wijnaldum to remain at Anfield despite the player having only 12 months remaining on his contract.
Koeman earlier confirmed that he was interested in Wijnaldum country mate Memphis Depay with the player intimating that he had signed a pre-contract deal with Barcelona; the former Manchester United man expected to arrive at Camp Nou in January 2021.
Love the duels in training brother, but glad you’ll be on my side when it matters this week 🦁🔶 pic.twitter.com/tqeiIsNttG— Gini Wijnaldum (@GWijnaldum) October 6, 2020
