We all know about Sadio Mané, Mo Salah and Riyad Mahrez, but there are a host of other African stars vying for more prominent roles in Europe's elite club competition.
There are eight matchday 2 fixtures tonight and some of the continent's finest emerging stars will take their respective places in starting XIs around Europe.
🌍 A few alternative African stars to look out for in the #UCL tonight:— Futaa.com (@Futaacom) October 27, 2020
🇧🇫 Lassina Traoré for Ajax
🇿🇲 Enock Mwepu for RB Salzburg
🇲🇱 Moussa Marega for Porto
🇬🇳 Sory Kaba for Midtjylland pic.twitter.com/ZvlDAdtwkn
Burkina Faso teenager Lassina Traoré was the star of the show for Ajax at the weekend as the Dutch giants demolished Venlo 13-0. The Burkinabe star scored five of them, and he'll be keen to transfer that form to the grandest stage. Ajax takes on Atalanta in a tasty-looking tie.
Zambia has strong representation at RB Salzburg. Patson Daka is a regular goal-scorer and emerging as a household name but it's his compatriot Enock Mwepu who does a lot of the dirty work in midfield. And he will have his work cut out for him away to Diego Simeone's excellent Atlético Madrid team.
Mali striker Moussa Marega will be keen to add to his tally of six Champions League goals in 16 appearances when Porto hosts Olympiacos at Estádio do Dragão.
Liverpool vs Midtjylland is a classic David vs Goliath clash as the six-time European champions square up to a team making its maiden appearance in the competition. Guinea striker Sory Kaba will relish the challenge at Anfield. His compatriot Naby Keïta is a doubt for the clash so it's up to the 25-year-old to fly the flag and enjoy an unforgettable night.
