The Uruguayan is now expected to be out for up to four weeks, which should be bad news for coach Zinedine Zidane.
The news comes a day after both Eden Hazard and Casemeiro tested positive for Coronavirus, even though they are expected to be back after the international break.
The Los Blancos will face Villareal in their next LaLiga assignment, before a trip away to Inter Milan in the Champions League.
