Injured Liverpool defender Gomez to get part of his wages from FIFA

Injured Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will get part of his wages from world football governing body FIFA during the time he will be out of action for his club.

The Daily Mail says FIFA is set to pay Liverpool £2million in compensation to cover the wages of crocked Gomez this coming after the defender picked a serious injury while on international duty with England.

There are fears that the player will miss the remainder of the season with this being a blow to Liverpool defensive unit who are already without the services of Virgil van Dijk who just as Gomez, is expected to be out for the remainder of the season.

The Football Association have confirmed FIFA will pay the money to cover Gomez's wages, understood to be in the region of £80,000 a week.

England players are covered by the FIFA club protection programme, an insurance package that allows clubs to claim directly via the scheme.
