🇰🇪 Gor Mahia edge out Western Stima, Mathare too strong for Zoo

Gor Mahia recorded a second successive win with a 3-1 comfortable win against Western Stima at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Monday afternoon.

The defending Kenyan Premier League champions went into the match on the back of a similar win over Mathare United last time out, and they picked a second successive win for the first time this season.

Samuel Onyango, who scored the third against the Slum Boys last time out, opened the scores in Kisumu in the 23rd minute to set them on the path to another important win.

The lead did not last long though as the hosts equalised in the 38th minute through Godfrey Orachaman to ensure it stood all square going into the break.

Gor came back for the second half a determined side and their persistence paid off in the 68th minute when Tito Okello found the back of the net to give them a 2-1 lead.

Okello then got his second of the day and third for the defending champions with two minutes to go to ensure they left the western city with maximum points.

The win saw Gor move to eighth on the standings on nine points, nine off league leaders KCB.

Mathare 2-0 Zoo

In the other match, Mathare United bounced back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Zoo Kericho at the Moi Kasarani Stadium.

The Slum Boys were reeling from their last match, a 3-1 loss to Gor Mahia, but they were the better side as they picked their first win of the season.

They got off the blocks first and opended the scores in the 7th minute as Daniel Otieno found the net with a well taken low finish from inside the area following a neat pass from John Mwangi.

It was 2-0 four minutes later as John Mwangi bundled the ball over the line after the Zoo keeper had parried his initial shot.

Mathare are still at the bottom of the standings on three points, one above their opponents.
