Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are in the market for a defender who will replace David Alaba with the Austria international set to leave the club in the summer.
There have been reports that Alaba will sign for Real Madrid in the summer as a free agent and according to Marca, Bayern has already identified Villareal defender Pau Torres as his replacement.
The reports further indicate that Torres’ eye-catching performances for Villarreal in the last 12 months have placed him firmly on Bayern’s radar with his club determined to hold on to their €60m release clause placed on the player.
Torres has been one of the key members of the Unai Emery side this season and has so far featured with 20 successive starts in league action.
Villareal has always had the tendency of selling some of their best players to established clubs around Europe as they seek to balance books after the Covid 19 pandemic hit most of the club’s coffers.
With Upamecano move doubtful amid Bayern interest, Arteta will now turn his attention to other targets: Ibrahima Konate, Pau Torres, Nathan Ake, Gabriel Magalhaes and Unai Nunez all on his radar. [@Football_LDN]— LTArsenal™ (@ltarsenal) April 29, 2020
