Manchester United moved back to second in the English Premier League table after a comfortable 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Sunday evening.
The Reds got their goals through Marcus Rashford and Daniel James before Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot to seal the win.
The visitors, who had their fair share of possession and chances, got their consolation through Allan Saint-Maximin.
Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made five changes to the team that won in the Europa League in midweek, with De Gea replacing Dean Henderson in goal, while there were starts for Nemanja Matic, Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial, and Victor Lindelof.
The visitors got off the blocks first, forcing the United backline and the gaolkeeper into numerous blocks and save early on.
The first chance fell to Jonjo Shelvey in the fifth minute, who skied his cross to force a punch from De Gea.
Joelinton then took the rebound down and his deflected shot off Lindelof forced a really good save from the keeper.
Newcastle threatened again just before the half-hour mark, with Almiron collecting the ball from distance and unleashed a long-range shot from 25 yards out but De Gea fell on it and gathered.
The scoreline then changed a few minutes later in favour of United, and it was Rashford with a moment of magic.
40 - Marcus Rashford's opener was his 40th goal in all competitions since the beginning of last season, with only Raheem Sterling (44), Harry Kane (45) and Mohamed Salah (47) managing more amongst all Premier League players. The striker took Maguire's pass and nutmegged Emil Krafth to get away down the left, before chopping back inside the right-back and then reversed his shot low and with venom into the near post.
The lead however lasted five minutes as the visitors pulled level thanks to a Saint-Maximin striker after United failed to clear their lines well.
United then doubled their lead in the 57th minute after Daniel James sneaked behind the Newcastle defense to rifle in a ferocious shot for a 2-1 lead.
Bruno Fernandes then completed the win in the 75th minute from the spot, after Rashford was fouled inside the box.
The win saw United move above Leicester City, who won earlier against Aston Villa.
