Arsenal dropped points following a 1-1 draw with Burnley on Saturday in a Premier League encounter staged at Turf Moor.
The encounter between Burnley and Arsenal looked to be meandering towards an uneventful 1-1 draw after Wood had canceled out Aubameyang's opener with the help of a shocker from Xhaka.
The hosts had three big chances to win it before Arsenal had a penalty overturned when Pieters somehow managed to divert a Pepe effort off the bar with his shoulder.
In the stoppage time, Ceballos struck the post as Burnley somehow held on.
Arsenal had a quick counter-attack and Aubameyang had the ball before he cut inside so easily from the left before firing a low shot. It was a well-struck effort but it was at Pope's near post which he should have covered. However, the ball slipped through his attempts at a one-handed save.
Just before halftime, Xhaka had a nightmare and Burnley got the leveler. Arsenal tried to play out with Leno putting Xhaka in a bit of trouble about 10 yards out from his own goal. Xhaka tried to play a ball across goal for Luiz and he smacked it straight at Wood who deflected it into the unguarded net. A quite ridiculous goal to concede.
Nicolas Pepe missed a sitter. Tierney got in down the left and delivered pure quality from a wide area. It couldn't be more perfect for Pepe in the center of the goal from eight yards out but he somehow missed his kick and the chance was lost.
Pepe's volley hit the shoulder of Pieters and came rocketing off the crossbar. The referee deemed the block handball by Pieters and was shown a straight red card. VAR was called into action to check that. It looked to have come off his shoulder.
After review, the penalty was overturned so as the red card.
