Manchester United are in talks to buy A-League side Central Coast Mariners

English Premier League giants Manchester United are looking to buy A-League side Central Coast Mariners.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, United ‘has held lengthy discussions with Mariners owner Mike Charlesworth about buying the club’s license and turning them into a ‘sister club’.

It is a kind of agreement deployed by their neighbors Man City with teams across the globe where they have a portfolio of clubs including New York City, Melbourne City, Girona FC, and more.

Mariners are said to be struggling financially and even though a deal between them and United is yet to be stamped, United are willing to chip in and help their sinking ship.

The reports however claim that a deal between the two clubs may come at a price for the club as they could be relocated from the Central Coast region of Australia to Sydney’s northern suburbs and would be subsequently rebranded.

The Sydney Morning Herald mentions that any deal would have to be signed off by Football Australia, with approval from the majority of A-League clubs also needed with United seeing this as an opportunity to increase exposure and investment.
