Ferran Torres can be our No 9, insists Guardiola

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola insists Ferran Torres can emerge as the club's No 9 following his hattrick in the 4-3 victory over Newcastle United on Friday.

Torres signed for City from Valencia as a winger last summer but has been used in a central role this season in a number of matches. The 21-year-old was in fine form yesternight as he bagged a hat-trick at St James' Park and Guardiola was delighted with his fellow Spaniard's killer instinct.

"This is his first season in England and his numbers are exceptional in terms of goals," said Guardiola.

"I may have to think about playing him as a striker. He can be a No.9. He is an alternative, he is brilliant."

"The movement he creates as a striker, the runs in behind. His last goal - the ball hits the crossbar and where does it come? He is there. He has the smell, the striker’s nose, being intuitive to be there one second before the ball arrives. He has this talent and is a good finisher."

Sergio Aguero is set to leave City at the end of the current season and it remains to be seen if the club will buy a new striker or they will stick with Torres.

"Maybe we buy a striker, maybe we don’t," said Guardiola.

"But we have a guy who is young. I can use him left, right, or as a striker."

City's last two Premier League matches this season will be against Everton and Brighton before facing Chelsea on 29th May in the finals of the Champions League.
