Laliga giants Real Madrid are ready to let defender Rafael Varane leave the club in the summer if they can find a buyer to fork out €70m for the player.
Varane is yet to sign a new deal with Madrid despite entering the final year of his contract with the player said to be attracting interest from English premier league giants Manchester United.
According to Spanish publication AS (h/t Sport Witness), Real Madrid is not willing to sell Varane with the tag price set just to scare away potential buyers as they seek to continue talks with the player over handing him a new deal.
United is in the market for a defender to partner captain Harry Maguire with a lot of names having been thrown around; Varane being one of their potential targets.
According to the reports, Madrid has made an offer for the 28-year-old, and rather than reject it, the player’s agents have gotten back to them with a counter-proposal.
It is said that United is ready to offer €46m for the French international but the Laliga side will insist on the €70m and would welcome any bid around that fee for the player.
Varane's contract with Madrid expires at the end of next season, and the club don't want him to leave for free. Manchester United are prepared to pay around €46m. Real Madrid want something closer to €70m. A lower offer of around €50m could be successful.#MUFC [Sport Witness] pic.twitter.com/KjrE79fdSM— The United Devils (@TheUnitedDevils) May 16, 2021
