COPA America: Brazil open campaign with win over Venezuela

Brazil Kicked off their COPA America campaign on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Venezuela at the Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha.

Venezuela’s squad which had been hit by the Covid virus didn’t, however, make it easier for their hosts but they were to break in the 22nd minute when Marquinhos found his way through the box on a set piece and bundled the ball over the line.

Neymar stepped up to the penalty spot to double the lead recording his 67th goal for Brazil in the second half after Danilo had been fouled in the box with the PSG man capitalizing on a defensive error and set up Gabriel Barbosa to slot home the third a minute from time.

In another match of the day, Colombia had Edwin Cardona to thank as his strike on the stroke of halftime was all his country needed to begin their campaign with a 1-0 win over Ecuador.
