The Brazilian was sparingly used last campaign under Zinedine Zidane, leading to rumours he might be one of the players leaving.
The club president has however insisted the full-back will remain and worker and the returning Carlo Ancelotti.
Florentino Perez confirms as reported today: Marcelo will stay and he’ll be the captain. ⚪️ #RealMadrid— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) June 24, 2021
“Marcelo will be our captain next season. It's difficult to find another LB like Marcelo. Him and Roberto Carlos have been the best in the history”, Florentino said. 🇧🇷 https://t.co/zWVtXA0kad
In case the Brazilian is used as a reserve player once again, Karim Benzema will wear the captain’s armband more often than not due to the club’s seniority policy.
Other senior players at the club include Luka Modric, as well as Casemeiro and Dani Carvajal.
Marcelo will replace Sergio Ramos, who left the club last week after 15 years of service.
