🇵🇹 Mourinho: I didn’t want De Bruyne to leave Chelsea

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he did not encourage Kevin De Bruyne to leave the Blues.

The duo were at Chelsea in 2013 before the Belgium star was signed by Wolfsburg in Germany, which was later followed by a mega million deal to Manchester City where De Bruyne proved to be one of the best players in the Premier League.

As a result, Mourinho’s credentials and eye for talent has since been questioned.

"He impressed me so much I made the decision I don't want this kid to go on loan, I want him to stay, and in our first match of the Premier League season, he started against Hull City," Mourinho told talkSPORT.

"In the second match we went to Old Trafford, and after this he came to me and said, 'I want to play every match, I want to play every minute'. He put a lot of pressure on that.

"He wanted to leave, he wanted to go to Germany where he was previously on loan and so happy, and his decision was to go. He put big pressure on that and it worked very well for him.

"The story is there and the quality of the player is absolute, he is in the top five in the world,” Mourinho concluded.

Meanwhile, De Bruyne is preparing to lead Belgium against Portugal in the 2020 Euro last 16 battle on Sunday.
