English giants Liverpool have made an opening bid for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
The Reds are looking to boost their midfield after the departure of Gini Wijnaldum and had earmarked Saul as the perfect replacement; the Dutch midfielder having left for Paris Saint Germain on a free transfer.
According to Sport, a number of Premier League clubs are interested in Saúl, but it’s Liverpool who has made the first concrete move.
The player had been linked with Man United earlier in the week but it emerged that the reports were false with the Red Devils keen on other targets.
Atleti is attempting to offload Saúl due to the midfielder being one of their biggest earners with the club having already snapped Rodrigo de Paul this summer as his replacement.
The report claims the Reds have offered €40million with the option of Atleti signing Xherdan Shaqiri with the reports claiming that captain Jordan Henderson could be placed on the table as an alternative to Shaqiri due to slow progress over his new contract.
