Arteta provides injury update on Partey

Mikel Arteta has given an update on Thomas Partey's injury.

The midfielder was substituted in the first half as the Gunners lost 2-1 to Chelsea on Sunday in a pre-season friendly at the Emirates.

Speaking after the match, Arteta said the injury 'did not look good', suggesting they will know its extent once further scans are done on Monday.

"I just had a talk with the doc (sic). He will have a scan tomorrow. at the moment, it does not look good," he said.

The Ghanaian was named in the starting lineup at the Emirates but seemed to turn his ankle following a tough tackle from Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Partey had a troubled first season in England, with hamstring and hip issues limiting him to just 18 starts in the Premier League.

If it turns out to be a “high ankle sprain”, Partey could be out for up to six weeks, which could rule him out of the Gunners' opening weeks of the new Premier League season.
