📜 Four players with worst Premier League debut history

Debuts should not be disastrous but instead should be marked as dates to remember for any player donning a jersey for the new club.

We take a look at five of the worst Premier League debuts;

Joe Cole

Joe Cole had moments to forget on his debut as he was sent off at Anfield when Liverpool faced Arsenal. Cole was shown a straight after a bad challenge on Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny.

Cole’s marching orders were the start of a fairly miserable time on Merseyside for the England international, who failed to find his form during an injury-hit spell with the Reds.

Thiago Silva

Silva joined Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer and made his first appearance for the Blues against West Brom. On his debut, Chelsea suffered a 5-2 loss in the hands with Silva being sent off in the 29th minute for a foul on Callum Robinson.

However, since then, the Brazilian has become a key player for Chelsea and played a part as the Blues won the Champions League last season.

Patrice Evra

Evra signed for Manchester United from AS Monaco in 2006 and his first appearance for the Red Devils proved a difficult season.

The Frenchman made his debut in the Manchester derby and was subbed off by a furious Sir Alex Ferguson after the Red Devils found themselves trailing by two goals.

Rio Ferdinand

Ferdinand signed for Leeds United in 2000 from West Ham United for a record-breaking fee. He made his debut against Leicester City as Robbie Savage made changes to accommodate the new man.

Rio's debut ended in a defeat as his side conceding three goals inside 28 minutes.
