🚚 Newcastle 2-3 Tottenham: Spurs sink Newcastle in five-goal thriller

Newcastle United failed to mark a new era of ownership with a win as they succumbed to a 3-2 loss against Tottenham on Sunday evening.

In what was Steve Bruce’s 1,000th game in professional management, the magpies did nothing to ease the pressure on the manager's position as Newcastle United boss in what was a poor overall performance.

Callum Wilson nodded the hosts into the lead after just two minutes, and it seemed they could be on their way to a first win under the new owners, who were early on welcomed into the directors' box.

Spurs however turned it around with Tanguy Ndombele pulling his side level after 17 minutes, before Harry Kane opened his account in the 22nd minute.

The match was however suspended for 24 minutes after an incident in the stands where a Newcastle fan needed urgent medical attention.

The visitors added a third just before the break to take the match away from the hosts, who were reduced to 10 men in the second half after Jonjo Shelvey was shown a red card.

An Eric Dier own goal in the 89th minute gave Newcastle some glimmer of hope, but Nuno Espirito's men held on for the win.
