West Ham United were held to a 2-2 draw by RC Genk on Thursday evening in a Europa League Group H match.
The Hammers found themselves trailing inside four minutes of play following Joseph Paintsil's early goal. It was really a nice move from Gent and Panitsil got behind to punish West Ham. Ito played him through and he easily got in behind Diop before striking on the ankle and Areola did get a hand to it but it wasn't enough to keep the ball out. It slipped through his fingertips and into the back of the net via the crossbar.
West Ham drew level in the 59th minute after Lanzini threaded the ball out to Coufal on the right win, who pulled the ball back into the middle of the waiting Benrahma. He then slotted home superbly.
Cresswell did superbly to hold the ball up on the edge of the area before slotting in Benrahma down the left. He dunk the ball past Sadick far too easily, driving into the area before slotting home on the angle. He slipped the ball through Vandervoort's legs, who saw it ping off his knee.
Soucek own goal
Preciado had an instant impact off the bench, sending in a cross from the right. Soucek committed to the header and it was just a really poor bit of luck that saw it fire past Areola.
All hope is not lost with a draw - if there is a winner between Dinamo Zagreb and Rapid Vienna, West Ham will go through tonight, but will have to wait a little longer to be confirmed as group winners.
