After a vibrant opening night in Cameroon, here are our mini previews for Monday's action.
🏟 Senegal vs Zimbabwe
With just two wins in 12 AFCON group matches (D2, L8), Zimbabwe has struggled and as six of their last seven games featured under 2.5 goals, defending well could be their only real hope of progression. Each of Zimbabwe’s last five AFCON fixtures saw the half-time result replicated at the final whistle (D1, L4). The Lions of Teranga's superstars will have to be patient to claim a win here.
🏟 Guinea vs Malawi
With five defeats from six World Cup qualifiers coming into this AFCON opener, Malawi will have plenty of nerves. Four of those games saw the ‘Flames’ concede before half-time. Guinea has led at half-time in their last four AFCON victories so they'll look to start strong here.
🏟 Morocco vs Ghana
Morocco has kept 17 clean sheets from 21 matches since the beginning of 2021 (an 81% shutout rate). H2H history between these sides tends to point to strong defending, with both teams finding the net in just two of Morocco’s 11 all-time clashes against Ghana (W4, D3, L3).
🏟 Comoros vs Gabon
Gabon has won only two of their last nine matches (D2, L5), conceding 2+ goals in all five of those fixtures and they've also not won any of their last five AFCON fixtures, stretching back to January 2015 (D3, L2). Comoros scored only four across their six games during qualifying (W2, D3, L1), the joint-lowest of all 24 teams at the tournament, so we don't expect a goal-fest here. Also worth remembering that Gabon talisman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is unavailable after a positive Covid test.
