🚨Man City thump Newcastle to take control of Premier League title race

Manchester City opened a three-point gap at the top of the English Premier League table with a comfortable 5-0 win over Newcastle on Sunday evening.

After watching Liverpool pull level on points at the top, Pep Guardiola's side needed a win to regain command at the top again, and they did it, comfortably.

Despite starting on the front foot, it was the visitors that had sight of goal after just nine minutes when Chris Wood headed a goalwards, but Ederson made a comfortable save.

Raheem Sterling though ensured the Cityzens were off to a flying start when he found the back of the net after 19 minutes, setting them on the path to victory.

Wood then had a 24th-minute goal ruled out for offside, before Aymeric Laporte made it 2-0 in the 38th minute.

Before the second goal though, Ilkay Gundogan came close to scoring a second when he released a powerful first-time effort from the edge of the box which went in the direction of the left-hand post, but the keeper leaped like a salmon to deny him.

City made it 3-0 after the hour mark when Rodri planted a perfect header into the net after meeting a well-whipped corner ball.

The three goals seemed like they would be enough for the three points, but City had other ideas as they scored two more late on.

First, Oleksandr Zinchenko put the ball on a plate for Phil Foden, who scored with a simple close-range finish.

Sterling then scored his second and City's fifth two minutes later to put some icing on the cake much to the excitement of the home fans.

City lead the standings on 86 points, three ahead of Liverpool in second with two matches to go.
