According to various reports, former Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose has been linked with a move to Cardiff City after he reportedly activated a release clause in his two-year contract with Hibernian.

Football Live reported that although his deal in Scotland was expected to run till January 2020 with the Scottish Premiership club offering an extension, Ambrose opted to move on.

However, his decision might have been influenced by reports that he has caught the attention of Cardiff who are currently playing in the English Premier League, as the struggling side are looking to strengthen their back line.

Despite having dropped from Hibernian's hierarchy, his past form in the team and at his previous base in Scotland, where he first played for Glasgow Celtic, has attracted attention from Cardiff.

Ambrose has been tipped to follow in the footsteps of former Eagles star, Peter Osaze Odemwingie as the next Nigerian to wear Cardiff's colours in the second half of the 2018/19 season.

The report out at Wales added that Cardiff have fixed their focus fully on defensive reinforcement after their implosion against Tottenham Hotspur exposed weaknesses at the back.

In addition to the reports, Cardiff are reportedly keen on adding to their squad Ambrose and fellow-Scotland-based stopper, Glen Kamara of Dundee.
