Kiiza ready to hit the ground running with Vipers SC
Brought in during the January transfer window to boost Vipers attacking realm in the title race with KCCA, journeyman striker Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza now wants to hit the road running.
He had trained with the Kitende based side for two weeks before tacticians Michael Nam Ouma and Edward Golola decided to contract him for six months. “Vipers have given me the chance, I have to deliver.
“I want to pressure and that is why I came to Vipers. I want to give the owner (Lawrence Mulindwa) joy and as an experienced player, I know I can lift the young players at the club and the team at large,” Kiiza, revealed.
The former Nalubaale, URA, Yanga, Simba (Tanzania), Free State Stars (South Africa), Al Hilal (Sudan) and Fasil Kenema (Ethiopia) is expected to have his debut against Nyamityobora this afternoon at Kakyeka – and he hinted on the uncomfortable lull he has gone through.
“I thank Wakiso Giants (Fufa Big League side) for giving me a chance to train with them when I had no club. “I’m now ready to help Vipers achieve their dream. I have learned a lot in life,” he said.
Kiiza, who top scored in the 2010/11 season while at URA and had a mixed outing for Uganda Cranes will not only bring experience, pace, plan B to Vipers quest but also a healthy jostle for striking slots.
“Vipers SC is a big team that must compete on all fronts. We are still in the race for the League title and the Uganda Cup. I hope my arrival will be useful to help the team.”
With forwards Dan Sserunkuma, Tito Okello, Abraham Ndugwa and Brian Kalumba, the reigning league kings have managed just 23 goals from 16 matches, 11 goals less than rivals KCCA.
