Ex-Gor Mahia ace Walusimbi reveals why he turned down Chippa United move

Godfrey Walusimbi has revealed he turned down a move to Chippa United and decided to return to Uganda because he didn't understand why Kaizer Chiefs waited until the January transfer deadline to release him.

Walusimbi turned down a swap deal involving him and goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi who joined Chiefs from Chippa.

“They told me that because I’m a national team player, I needed to get playing time and therefore I should allow and go to Chippa United on loan,” Walusimbi told the Sunday Monitor.

Walusimbi's comments seemed to contradict with Kaizer's claims that the former K'Ogalo man left the Soweto giants because he wanted to return home.

“This was on the last day of transfers. I asked them why they didn’t tell me early enough for me to prepare myself because they knew this was their plan all along,” he added.

Despite an offer made for him to go to the Chilli Boys, the 29-year-old said training alone was the best option than joining the Port Elizabeth-based outfit.

“I just decided to come back home and work alone as I awaited another opportunity. I just wanted to be free,” said the former Gor Mahia player.

Meanwhile, Walusimbi remains confident and is now looking forward to representing the East Africans at the upcoming 2019 Caf African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.

“It didn’t break me. I just came back home and continued to work hard and good enough, the (Uganda) coach (Sebastien Desabre) knows my qualities and here I am. I’m hungrier than ever,” he concluded.
