After a goalless first half that saw Chelsea undone by a poor strike force, the hosts were to take the lead through Senegalese forward Sadio Mane in the 51st minute.
After some nice build up from the Jurgen Klopp side, Salah played a one-two with Firmino, ignored a woolly tackle from Emerson and found Henderson in the area. The England midfielder danced around the outside and stood up a gorgeous cross to the far post. It was a certain goal even before it reached the head of Mane, and he nodded it into an open net from four yards.
Even before Chelsea could settle, Salah doubled the hosts lead two minutes later with a wonderful screamer. Van Dijk drove a pass out to Salah on the right. He controlled it, cut infield before arrowing a spectacular shot from 25 yards that exploded past Kepa and into the top corner.
But Chelsea was not giving up hope yet with Hazard rattling the crossbar. A corner was cleared to the halfway line, where Emerson drove a speculative ball back over the top. Hazard, who was just onside, took the ball down beautifully on the run and slipped it through the outrushing Alisson’s legs but it bounced off the face of the near post.
Despite late changes by the Chelsea side, Liverpool was to hold on to get back to the league summit at the expense of Manchester City who still has a game in hand.
