Third-placed Real Madrid squandered a chance to close the gap with second-placed Atletico Madrid to within four points with a barren draw against Getafe on Thursday night

Los Blancos, who had both Gareth Bale and Isco back in the starting line-up, struggled against a good Getafe side that perhaps should have won the match.

Zinedine Zidane's side almost took the lead 60 seconds into the match when Gareth Bale run onto Isco's long ball and dragged a shot just wide of the far post.

The visiting team had a penalty appeal turned down in the 89th minute when Lucas Vazquez went down in the opposition's box only for the referee to turn down his appeals.

The draw ensured Getafe reclaim back their spot in the top four and in a chance for a surprise Champions League position while Real are six points behind second-placed Atletico with four games to go.
