After Antonio Rudiger ended his season with a meniscus tear, Maurizio Sarri has revealed that Gary Cahil has also suffered an injury as he admitted that Chelsea are in ‘trouble’ defensively.
Rudiger will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United over the weekend and underwent successful surgery on Tuesday. To make matters worse for Chelsea, club captain Cahill has not traveled with the rest of the squad to face Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of Thursday’s semi-final first leg tie.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of the Frankfurt clash, Sarri revealed that Cahil has suffered an injury, "Cahill is out… it’s a problem with the Achilles tendon. He is out for the moment. I hope to have him back in one week. But he is out so we are in trouble with the center-backs. In training we played with [Cesar] Azpilicueta at center-back, in case as he is the only one who can play there.
"It is normal it can happen. We have had a lot of games and been unlucky with injuries. Rudi is out for at least three months, I spoke to him and he is disappointed."
