Ulinzi Stars youngster Ibrahim Shambi will be among the Harambee Stars players that will be representing the country in the CHAN 201 qualification with the midfielder saying his call up was a big psychological boost.
The youngster who was part of the Kenya U23 team that were bundled out of the Olympic Qualifiers by Sudan believes his step up to the senior team is a manifestation of how the national team coaches trust him and was looking to repay the faith shown in him by giving his all.
“I think the call up shows the trust the coaches have in me, which is good, and more importantly it is a big psychological boost for me to do what I have been doing, while at the same time trying to get better at it.
“I have been at the U20 and U23 teams and this is a new step for me. It signifies growth and the start of a new challenge. The response I can give here is to work harder to not only be a better player but also help the national team, and my team, Ulinzi Stars,” Shambi is quoted by the club’s official website.
Shambi’s career has been on the rise since captaining the Ulinzi Cubs to the KPL U20 title in 2016.
