Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has responded to Pep Guardiola’s comments after the Manchester City boss claimed winning the Premier League is more important than the Champions League.
City were knocked out of the competition by Tottenham but ended up winning a domestic treble with the League and FA Cup triumphs to add to their Premier League title. However, Guardiola’s men were knocked out of Champions League by Spurs which saw the former Barcelona boss claim winning PL title is better than UCL.
“Pep has to say (PL is more important to CL) that as he hasn’t been in Champions League final for a while! He is a great manager and deserves all the praise he gets,” Klopp said in response to Guardiola’s comments.
“We tried to win the PL this season. City were a better team. But there’s another competition we’re in – we want to win Champions League. On the final. We feel this as a real European final. Nothing else. It’s a proper European final, nothing else. It’s not the third game we’ve played against Tottenham this season – it’s a European final.”
Klopp will be leading his side in the Champions League final against Tottenham on Saturday 1st.
