Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno to join Villarreal on a free transfer

26 Jun 2019, 17:00

The Spanish left-back is set to join LaLiga side Villarreal from Liverpool after agreeing to join the club on a free transfer.

Moreno who found less game time at the Merseyside club has his contract running out at the end of this month and he has agreed to join Santi Cazorla on Spain's east coast.

Liverpool bought Moreno five seasons ago from Sevilla for £12million but the perforce of Andy Robertson this season pushed him down the pecking order with the player having been reduced to feature only in cup games.

Going Back

Going back to his old club was one of the options on the table but Sevilla's new coach Julen Lopetegui had preferred the option of Real Madrid's Sergio Reguilon.

Moreno was increasingly sidelined in his final year at Anfield and has gone home to rebuild a career that once had him in the Spain national team.

Cazorla joined Villarreal for Arsenal on a one-year deal a year ago and has since renewed for a further 12 months.
