After Laurent Koscielny refused to travel with the Arsenal squad for their USA pre-season tour, his former teammate Olivier Giroud has blamed the media for trying to paint a bad image of him.
Arsenal have since rejected Koscielny’s transfer request and the defender is now facing disciplinary proceedings. According to reports, the French defender is keen on a move to Stade Rennes and refused to link up with his teammates for their pre-season tour.
Giroud threw his support behind Koscielny while blaming the media, "I feel very sad for him because he’s a great person and the media wants to give a bad image of him. I’m not at the club, I don’t know what really happened – but one thing for sure is Lolo is very hurt by what’s happening and he’s an emotional person.
"You cannot make a judgment when you don't have all the clues. I'm pretty sure we don't know everything in this situation."
Koscielny joined Arsenal from French club Lorient in 2010 and has since made 353 appearances for the club. He was appointed permanent captain a year ago.
