South African referee Victor Gomes has been appointed by CAF to officiate the AFCON 2019 between Algeria and Senegal at Cairo International Stadium on Friday evening.
Gomes has gained recognition for his no-nonsense approach to refereeing games. The 36-year-old took charge of the last 16 match between Tunisia and Ghana and was fourth official for the semi-final clash between Nigeria and Algeria.
Gomes is one of two South African officials at the continental showpiece with the other being assistant referee Zakhele Siwela.
Friday night’s final to crown the new African champions will begin at 21:00 Egyptian time.
