Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is feeling cool after being drawn alongside Benin Republic, Lesotho and Sierra Leone in Group L of the AFCON 2021 qualifiers.
Rohr is however careful not to allow a repeat of what happened to the Super Eagles in 2015 where they failed to qualify after winning the trophy in 2013.
“I feel good about the draw,” Rohr told Sports Extra.
“I think we judge teams on their names, their history, but you have to get out and beat them.
“Benin are a good side, we saw them at the AFCON, how they were hard to beat, they are a good example. They weren’t bad and had some good players. Their only defeat was against Senegal.”
“We all saw what happened when the qualifiers for the 2015 AFCON began. The (Eagles) team which won the 2013 edition lost their first game at home to DR Congo 3-2 and afterwards struggled.
Nigeria finished third at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt after beating Tunisia 1-0 in the losers final.
