Emery yet to decide on Arsenal captaincy - reveals Xhaka

Granit Xhaka has revealed that coach Unai Emery is yet to decide on the Arsenal captaincy, despite the new English Premier League season being a few days away.

The club is in search of a new captain after Laurent Koscielny failed to travel with the team for the preseason tour, as he angles for a move away from the club.

Xhaka is one of the frontrunners to wear the armband and has said it will be special to lead the club next season.

“Nobody has spoken about the captain's armband,” he told Arsenal Player

“The coach hasn't decided but if I have the armband, of course, I will be happy. It's something special but in the end, we have to all be captains on the pitch and outside out of the pitch because we need everyone," he added.

Koscielny has indicated that he wants to leave the club, after nine years since his arrival from France.

The 33-year-old former French international still has a year left on his current contract but is said to be keen on a return to his native country.

Bordeaux, Rennes, and Lyon all interested in his services, and Arsenal have reportedly resolved to place him in the market.

The defender has made 353 appearances for Arsenal since joining from Lorient in 2010, scoring 27 goals and winning two FA Cups.
