🏀 💰 Raheem Sterling considering £100m boot endorsement deal with Nike brand Air Jordan

The Manchester City superstar is contemplating an offer to be one of the first footballers to sign a personal endorsement to wear Air Jordan football boots, in what would become one of the most lucrative boot deals in the history of the game.

Nike created the Air Jordan brand in 1984 for Michael Jordan, a legendary NBA figure, with his own distinctive logo which proved immensely popular and has thrived long after his retirement.

Sterling, who got his season off to a flying start with a hat-trick against West Ham, currently has a boot deal with Nike but that is in its final year. The 24-year-old England international's commercial value to brands is beyond question, as is his growing popularity off the pitch.

Air Jordan's move into football a year ago saw them brand Paris Saint-Germain's official kits and it seems as though a potential boot deal with Sterling would open up new channels for the brand to compete in the lucrative football market.

Air Jordan, a subsidiary of American sportswear company Nike, has yet to market football boots but their collaboration with PSG has set a precedent and growth into football is a seemingly viable market. The brand is mostly associated with endorsements for NBA basketballers, Major League baseballers and musicians but it's clear that footballers are a prospect for the brand.

Raheem Sterling's profile on and of the pitch is growing by the day, and his outspoken stance on racism on football means that he is rightly admired around the globe. Sterling was the target of racist taunts during a match at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea last season.

Nike has worked with Sterling already in a campaign launched shortly after he spoke out after events at Stamford Bridge. Sterling's status as one of the most marketable sports stars in Europe makes him an obvious candidate to represent most brands, and Air Jordan wants to get on board.

Sterling signed a new contract at Manchester City, running until 2023 worth up to £300,000 a week. He is one of Pep Guardiola's key men and will be crucial to their chances of finally claiming UEFA Champions League glory. Sterling was part of a side that won a domestic treble last season, and he has 51 caps for England, a side that he captained against The Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League tournament in June.

Nike and Adidas are in a constant battle for sports brand supremacy. Nike's stable includes Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr, while their fiercest rivals, German sportswear giants Adidas, have Lionel Messi on their books. Raheem Sterling seems to be reaching new heights as a household superstar name.
