Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Pereira has moved to Scotland with Hearts acquiring his services on a loan deal for the rest of the 2019/20 season.
The Portuguese keeper has found playing time hard to come by with David De Gea the undisputed first-choice keeper; Sergio Romero being the preferred back up for the Spaniard.
A statement on the club’s website noted: “Manchester United keeper Joel Pereira has joined Hearts on loan for the rest of the 2019/20 season, with the move subject to international clearance.
“The 23-year-old is to spend the campaign in Scotland in order to hopefully obtain regular first-team football and continue his development between the posts.
The move is the fifth loan move in Pereira’s career following spells with Rochdale, Belenenses, Vitoria Setubal and Kortrijk.
The Portugal goalkeeper will hope that he enjoys success as his teammate defender Demi Mitchell who has benefited from two stints with the Tynecastle outfit, working under manager Craig Levein, and it is hoped Joel will also prove a success in Edinburgh.
The keeper was part of the Reds' Tour 2019 squad and appeared in the 2-0 victory over Perth Glory, before facing Leeds United in the 4-0 win in Australia.
