🏆Adrian the hero as Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties to lift Super Cup

Liverpool are the 2019 Super Cup🏆 winners after beating Chelsea 7-6 on penalties in a match staged at Vodafone Park in Turkey on Wednesday night.

It was totally a different Chelsea, different team from the one which lost to Manchester United. Chelsea opened the scoring through Olivier Giroud in the first half before Sadio Mane grabbed the equalizer immediately after the start of the second half. In the extra time, Liverpool took the lead for the first time as Mane completed his brace, however, Jorginho scored from the spot to force the match into penalties.

Liverpool scored all their five penalties as Tammy Abraham missed the fifth penalty for Chelsea with Adrian making no mistake, saving with his legs to help Liverpool win the Super Cup.

Off the post

The Blues went close to taking the lead in the 23rd minute through Pedro. The Spaniard took the ball on just outside the box and powered past Gomez into the area. There was not much to aim at when he looked up so he smacked an effort at goal instead which beat Adrian all ends up but cannoned back off the bar and away.

Finally, Chelsea took the lead in the 36th minute through Olivier Giroud. Kante drove forward from midfield, holding off Milner before finding Pulisic. The American waited before sliding through Giroud and he slipped the ball under Adrian and into the far corner from a tight angle.

Disallowed goal

Four minutes later, Chelsea thought they had doubled their lead, and Pulisc thought he was off the mark. He was played in by Emerson’s ball down the line, playing on the shoulder of the last man and cut inside of Gomez before firing low into the near corner. He wheeled away in celebration but it was soon cut short when he was given offside for his initial run.

Less than 90 seconds on the clock after the restart of the second half, Liverpool drew level. Fabinho had a soft touch of the ball into the box which Firmino reacted to quickly, he clipped it across ahead of Kepa and Mane bundled it in at the far post.

Jorginho played a pinpoint pass into Mount who was on the shoulder of Gomez, and Chelsea were clean through on goal. The youngster picked out the bottom corner perfectly from the edge of the area but up came the flag, straight away, to rule it out.

Mane brace

After 90 minutes, the two sides could not be separated and had to go for extra time. In the extra time, Mane grabbed his second goal of the game with a hit. Mane and Firmino linked up down the left with the Brazilian playing on Zouma's shoulder. His return ball inside to Mane found him in plenty of space and he smashed it beyond Kepa first time.

Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the 101st minute. Abraham got to a loose ball inside the box, Adrian looked to just catch him and a penalty was given. There was a VAR check and it agreed with the decision. Jorginho was as cool a penalty taker as you will ever see. He just waited for Adrian to give him a little signal of where he was going to dive and stuck it down the far side.
