"The competition in the squad is motivating me," -David Accam

Columbus Crew striker David Accam revealed that playing in a highly competitive team has inspired him to be a better player who strives to improve his game.

Accam joined Columbus Crew in May 2019 from Philadelphia Union - he scored his second goal in seven Major League Soccer (MLS) appearances as Crew played to a 2-2 draw against Toronto FC.

"There is a lot of competition in the team, especially in the wing position," Accam said as reported by his club's official website.

"We have a lot of good players and everyone is capable of starting and doing well, so for me, it’s about being ready to make an impact any time I get a chance.

"Yeah for sure [competition in midfield has helped me become a better player] because you know someone can take your position so any chance you get, you have to take advantage.

"That’s what I try to do every time and I know most of the guys to do the same."

Accam will be hoping to have a better season with Columbus Crew after he struggled at his previous club with injuries that eventually led to bad for.

He managed 23 appearances in the league including 13 starts and one goal - this came a year after scoring 14 goals from 31 matches from 25 starts for Chicago Fire

Accam is no doubt hoping for better fortunes this season following his struggles at Union last term.

Jonathan Mensah, Harrison Afful and recently David Accam are the three Ghana international players at Columbus Crew.
