Antonio Rudiger will feature for the Chelsea U-23 team against Liverpool on Monday night, as he steps up his recovery.
The German has not featured for Chelsea this season, following an injury he suffered towards the end of last season.
He has stepped up his recovery in recent weeks, and manager Frank Lampard hinted before the Leicester match that he was ready and could be involved soon.
He, however, did not feature at all despite being on the bench but will be in line to start against the development squad at the Anfield Stadium.
"I know I need to be patient," said the 26-year-old as quoted by the club's website.
"There is no need to rush anything because as we all know we have a long season to go. I am happy because I am going to have some minutes with the Under-23s against Liverpool. I'm very pleased with that,"
Chelsea have not had the best of the campaign so far, and remain winless after the first three matches of the season; two in the Premier League and a Super Cup final.
They have however shown glimpses of a good side, and have been unlucky at times.
Rudiger's return will definitely offer the side much-needed experience at the back, after the departure of David Luiz, who joined Arsenal.
