Crystal Palace defender Patrick Van Aanholt is in trouble with the club coach Roy Hodgson after he was asked to explain his social media post following their loss to Sheffield United last week.
The London club suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to the newly-promoted side in an English Premier League tie, with the former Chelsea man saying their opponents 'needed the win more' compared to them.
Hodgson asked the Dutchman to explain his sentiments, further adding it was disappointing to see such a 'summary' of the match.
Sheff Utd just wanted it more than us, boys are p*ssed, we just couldn’t get going, but it’s a long season ahead, back to work 👍🏽 https://t.co/YfZp9pxpaZ— Patrick van Aanholt (@pvanaanholt) August 20, 2019
"We constantly preach to our players not to make major errors," Hodgson said of their social media policy.
"But one of our players has supposedly put something on Twitter which wasn't put out by him at all, it was put out by his agent or someone he knows. Where do you go from there? If you call the player in and say, 'that is wrong' and he says 'well it wasn't me', then where do you go from there?
Hodson's men face another tricky fixture this weekend, traveling to Manchester to face United.
