Fernandinho reveals how he has been preparing for the Manchester City centre-back role

After Aymeric Laporte sustained an injury in the 4-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion, Fernandinho has revealed how he has been preparing to play in the center-back position.

The French defender was stretchered off during the first half of the win over Brighton and then taken to hospital with Pep Guardiola not hopeful of the forecast. Vincent Kompany left the club to join Anderlecht in the summer with City not getting his replacement in the transfer window.

With John Stones not fully fit, Fernandinho has revealed he has been training as a center back, "I've been training in this position the last couple of weeks. We still have two center-backs but I can play in this position. John was injured, Laporte comes off and I was the only one on the bench.

"It's not a secret for me. The key is just to understand the concept of the way we have to play. The movements and the pace we use in games. It was my first time and I hope I can improve and do better next time."
