Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has slammed Mohamed Salah following Sadio Mane row at Liverpool.
Wenger believes the Egyptian is ‘too obsessed’ with scoring goals while backing him to improve his decision making. During Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, Mane was furious with Salah after the former Chelsea ace refused to pass him the ball for an easy chance to score. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp played down the row with reports suggesting the duo was on good terms again in the dressing room after the game. Despite Wenger likening Salah to Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, he has conceded the 27-year-old is not as consistent as the Argentine.
“He must find the consistency of Messi. I find he’s a good finisher but Messi has the complete thing, he gives the final ball as well. ‘Salah is a bit obsessed with finishing himself,” said Wenger.
“That’s a dimension he’ll get certainly, when he grows a little bit older, to find the moment when you have to give the ball and when you have to finish. ‘But I like him very much, he has huge potential. Mane as well.”
“But you forget a little bit the guy who sacrifices himself is Firmino. And like Suarez did for Messi and Neymar, [Firmino] is the guy who works for the team, who works for everybody and gets them to shine. ‘This piece of the jigsaw is always difficult to find, a striker who is generous.”
