Wanyama in line for first appearance of the season as Tottenham take on Greek side

Kenya captain Victor Wanyama is part of the Tottenham squad that has travelled to Greece for a Champions League match against Olympiakos Piraeus on Wednesday night.

Last season's finalists start their campaign against the Greece opponents, with Wanyama eager to make his first appearance for the club.

The Kenyan captain has fallen out of favour at the club, with coach Mauricio Pochettino having myriad options in the middle of the park.

He has however earned a call-up to the side following injuries to key players, including Juan Foyth, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon, who continues to nurse a hamstring problem.

Other players who did not travel with the group include Danny Rose and Serge Aurier, with Pochettino having confirmed he will make changes after their win over Crystal Palace.

Wanyama came close to leaving the London club in the summer transfer window, with a possible move to Belgian side Club Brugge falling through in the last minute.

He was also linked to a move back to his former side Celtic, as he searched for a new home.

He moved to Tottenham from Southampton in 2016 for a fee or around £11 million.
