After impressing in the 3-0 thumping of Eintracht Frankfurt, Unai Emery has revealed that Lucas Torreira could be deployed in a more advanced role as the season progresses.
Since making his move from Sampdoria back in the summer of 2018, Torreria has mostly partnered with Granit Xhaka at the heart of midfield. The 24-year-old enjoyed a more attacking role against Frankfurt on Thursday night, floating from box to box and leading a number of counter-attacks.
Speaking in a press conference after the Frankfurt win, Emery revealed Torreira's new role, "Tonight he played very well and I think this season it's the first match he was physically very good. He finished it getting into the box.
"I want to use his quality and his quality is to be focused every time and with the possibility to push, with good pressing and with the possibility to get into the box to score. After when we need some control on the ball in the build-up he can help us."
It will be interesting to see if Torreria maintains his role in Sunday's clash against Aston Villa in a 6:30 PM kick-off.
