After both suffered injuries in the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, Chelsea manager Frank Lampards has provided injury updates on Andreas Christensen and Emerson Palmieri.
The defenders were withdrawn in the first half with injuries as Chelsea were forced to two chances with Marcos Alonso coming on for Emerson and Kurt Zouma replacing Christensen. The Danish defender is hoping to return to face Brighton at the weekend after being given the all-clear by club doctors.
Speaking ahead of their Carabao Cup clash against Grimsby Town, Lampard provided an injury update on the duo, "Andreas is not too severe. Hopefully, he won’t be out for too long but I can’t give a time frame. Emerson now won’t be back until the other side of the (mid-October) international break. It will be a few weeks because it is the recurrence of an injury, so we have to be a bit careful with it."
With Christensen ruled out of the Grimsby clash, it leaves just Zouma and Fikayo Tomori as fit senior center-backs against the League Two side.
