Chelsea moved fourth in the English Premier League standings after a 4-1 win over hosts Southampton on Sunday 6 October at St. Mary's
Tammy Abraham was to give Chelsea a 17th minute lead with a well-taken goal. A clipped ball by the Chelsea defence saw Gunn and Yoshida leave it to each other. Abraham was to capitalize on the confusion, and he insinuated himself between the duo to flick over the former; the latter does his best to hack off the line, but the ball was well over the line.
Mason mount was to double their lead in the 24th minute after some nice interplay between Willian and Jorginho; Mount getting at the end of Willian’s pass to glide the ball past Gunn from close range.
Southampton resilience was to pay in the half-hour mark when Danny Ings took a tap from Redmond, evading a few challenges from the Chelsea defence before sliding home to get the game on.
Chelsea was to restore their two-goal cushion five minutes to the break with Kante’s shot taking a deflection off Bednarek to dupe Gunn in the opposition goal.
Michy Batshuayi who had been in the field for five minutes after replacing goal scorer Abraham in the 84th minute was to put the game beyond the hosts with a goal a minute from time. The Belgium striker was put through by another substitute in Pulisic who played a clever return into the box with Batshuayi slamming the ball past Gunn.
