Newcastle United 1-0 Manchester United: Ole poor away run continues

Manchester United poor away run continued after slumping to a 0-1 loss at the hands of Newcastle United at St. James Park in week eight of Premier League action.

The first serious action of the game came in the third minute when referee Mike Dean was to produce a yellow card to Fred for a late challenge on Miguel Almiron as the Newcastle player burst forward but it was Matty Longstaff who once again reminded United why they needed him with a thunderbolt of a strike that came off the bar in the 26th minute as the home side continued to dominate possession.

Almiron had another opportunity in the 39th minute to put his side into the lead after managing to stay onside as he ran behind Ashley Young but he derailed to trouble David De Gea as Harry Maguire tracked back to block the danger.

Maguire then had an opportunity to head home after he found himself unmarked following an Ashley Young corner but he somehow missed it as the first half ended in a goalless fashion.

Substitutions of the Game

Newcastle was to turn to a plan B with manager Steve Bruce bringing in Andy Carroll for Joelinton with United reacting to the change on the hour mark by bringing in defender Marcos Rojo for Diogo Dalot who seemed to have picked an injury.

Six minutes later, referee Dean was to book Almiron for diving over a tackle by Rojo with United bringing on Mason Greenwood for Juan Mata.

Newcastle pressure was to finally pay in the 72nd minute through Longstaff. Saint-Maximin ran deep into United territory, with Willems making space with some neat skill and a pass that tees up Longstaff to drill home.

Ole was to throw Tahith Chong for Ashley Young with four minutes left on the clock but it did less in changing the outcome of the game.
