David de Gea hits out at his Manchester United teammates after Newcastle loss

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has hit out at his teammates following the 1-0 loss to Newcastle United noting that they need to step up.

United suffered their third loss of the season at the hands of Newcastle that leaves them 12th on the log and just two points off the relegation spots. Premier League debutant Matty Longstaff, scored the lone goal in the game as Newcastle moved to just a point off United.

In an interview with Sky Sports, De Gea criticized his teammates, "We didn't create any proper chances. We defended well. The team needs to step up. We have some big injuries but that’s no excuse. We are Manchester United, we need to keep training hard, fighting and winning games."

De Gea was asked what need to improve in the team, "Everything. A lot of things to improve. I don’t know what to say. Keep trying, fighting, improving every day. It’s a hard moment for us. The most difficult time since I’ve been here.

"I don’t know why, what is happening. Sorry to the fans. We will keep fighting. Come on, we conceded a goal from a comer. That cannot happen. It’s unacceptable."
