🇺🇸 Tyler Adams close to making RB Leipzig return after long-term injury

American international Tyler Adams has been dealt with consistent injury woes since the end of the 2018/19 season but now he is in contention to make his comeback for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

Adams, who is a New York Red Bulls Academy graduate has reportedly made impressive progress with Leipzig where he has been unbeaten in nine Bundesliga appearances having played the entire 90 minutes in six of those games.

The 20-year-old, however, sustained a groin injury that kept him on the sidelines that caused him to miss out on approximately eight games before he came back to the team in the side's 2-1 defeat to Werder Bremen.

"The biggest challenge I faced with the groin injury was that one day I woke up and felt great, but the very next day I woke up and had complaints again," Adams told Kicker (via the Bundesliga official website). "That was crazy."

The New York-born midfielder has been dealing with minor injuries which have been delaying his return to club action but it seems like his fate might be changing soon and will be able to make his first appearance under new manager Julian Nagelsmann.

"When I was fit again at the start of the season and returned to the team training, I got a knock on the sole of my foot during training which threw me back a few weeks," Adams said.

"Mentally, I'm in much better shape because I'm getting better every day.

"The plan is that I'll do rehab training until the end of the international break and that I can get back into training after the game against Wolfsburg. Whether it's one day earlier or later isn’t important, that’s up to the coach at the end of the day."

"It's hard to watch the boys in the big games," Adams said. "But you have to take the frustration and turn it into positive energy."

The rising star is in contention to make his comeback when Leipzig take on Freiburg on matchday 9 of the Bundesliga.
